Try googling " "Brand model" number running hot" there may be a bios upgrade to counteract it.0

Yes, so much so some people have burnt their 'bits' in the past

Remember a desk is even and allows circulation underneath it - a knee isn't and doesnt - it can mould totally covering the grilles.0 -
Dell laptops have always ran hotter than any other make, you may start to think that the fan doesn’t work, don’t worry this is inherent in there design, it is normal, there is very little space inside laptops these days so you have to expect some heat, if the machine overheats the BIOS will shut down the machine until it cools down to a safe level.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -

Got my 6400 on my lap now .... has been for more than an hour ... not hot at all.
When did you buy it? Worth a call to Dell support, maybe?

I have a Dell 5160.. and it gets really hot!

It makes my leg tingle when it's been on my lap for a while, it really burns!
& also make a right racket when the fan gets going.. really annoying!

Well .... nearly 3 hours now and it's barely warm. Compared with mine, yours is certainly behaving differently.
