Cheaper Electric when your in Arrears

After another call from M Power to move power companies I checked out the prices on the net. I found that BG offer much cheaper rates on Click 5. I decided to call BG and ask why that rate is cheaper - "less admin" was the response. After a playful rant to the BG guy I asked how can I get the cheaper rate and it can all be done online (all you need is your customer numbers) and you are put on the new rate. You do miss out on the postie sending a bill :T :T . What is the saving - 10.23p down to 7.65p per unit. What they don't tell you is even if you are in arrears you can move to the new rate (your account stays the same etc etc) My new bills will fall by £12 per week. . The best is I don't have to wait weeks and weeks if i had gone to SP or other supplier.

    Welcome to the forum.

Could you please give your calculations that show how your bills fall by £12 a week.(£600 a year)

Please note bills not monthly payments.

If this reduction in your bill is because the price has dropped from 10.23p to 7.65p for a kWh, I calculate that you will be using about 24,000kWh per year - which is about 7 times the UK average!

    Or have I misunderstood something?

I have a large home with four children (who use pcs, tvs, mobile phone chargers, washing machine, tumble dryer, etc etc) and do some free lance catering so my daily power consumption is 60 units per day at a saving of £1.55 per day x 7 = £10.83 plus the gas saving. ps I did not realise I had to prove to the penny the saving - my thread was to help other MS to realise they could move easily even if they were in arrrears to BG and the move was painless and received a confirmation email from BG within 24hrs.:D

Some people believe other MSEers can't read or can't understand that if the standing charge is the same and the unit rate is lower then there are savings to be made.
It's called delusions of superiority-bless em.
    It's a good tip-thanks.

You don't have to prove anything.

But we other MS get excited when we see potential savings of £12 a week, it is perfectly reasonable to ask how you make those savings.

I think you must 'hold the record' for electricity consumption on this board at 60 units a day(for a house with gas as well!) about 7 times the UK average electricity consumption with an annual bill around £1700

You also didn't mention you took into account gas savings.

Sadly for the majority, our savings will be a fraction of yours - but the point you make about moving easily is well taken.

Standing Charge? Did the OP mention that?

I suggest the most inexperienced MSEer can work out that if the unit rate is cheaper then there are savings to be made.

The query was on the scale of the savings!
