what a hero !! .... that's brilliant .. pretty easy couple of clicks and i've been able to download the audio from all sorts of great video clips of music / concerts etc .
changed my life !!!!
now for the next challenge !.... i've got loads of dvd's of pop concerts etc ,,,,can i run them on my desktop and somehow ..download the audio onto i-tunes ??
this would be even more life changing !!!!0 -
Download Audacity...
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Put the DVD and start it playing and immediately pause it.
Start Audacity up and click Record.
Unpause the DVD and it will record the sound being played on your pc.
When it's finished press Stop the File and Save As MP3...0 -
Or use DVDdecrypter in "stream processing" mode and selecting demux (I think) to dump the audio track to your hard disk in AC3 format.
See DVDdecrypter guide: http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/dvddec.htm
You can then convert that to an iPod compatible format.
That will be much much quicker than capturing the audio with audacity.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

bigtel ... gone through that .. assume as i had to let dvd run for it's 90 minutes that it was recording ? ... but then at end i clicked "stop button" .. but am stuck ... what do i do to "save as mp3" ... under the "file" click couldn't see anything really that would save it ... and i'm assuming the audio can go into my itunes file ? .. to then go on ipod ??0

failed miserably guys !!... all too complicated ! ..
couldn't get any further on "audacity".. no idea whether anything recorded and can't see any clicks anywhere that tells me what to do .
FERMI... looked at "doom" and wouldn't know where to start .. just loads of gobbledygook!!
Isn't there an easy "commercial" piece of software that has a simple
"user friendly" way ?0 -

fermi .. think you've got this months "hero" award !! ...
downloaded the trial version .. and after a bit of fluster and panic did the 5 minute download you're allowed . from a santana concert dvd i've just got ... .. seems i've now got it on my i-tunes list .. and it works !!!!
Nedd to buy full version as will definitely have loads of use for it .. but on their site there appears to be various options ..
this one specifies "dvd to ipod" .. http://www.xilisoft.com/dvd-to-ipod-converter.html... is that actually better ?? .. not sure the differrence ... just having the audio playing on my ipod is the priority.. ...i haven't progressed to looking at video on the ipod .. i'm guessing this downloads the video as well ??
keep me right please !!0 -
I recommend MediaCoder (which is free and open source) for ripping audio and video from DVDs and any video files in general. The program is easy to use and there's even an Ipod-specific version for granny-proof DVD/video to Ipod ripping, MediaCoder iPhone/iPod Touch Edition. If you install that, all you have to do to rip audio from a DVD is:
1. File --> Add Folder --> DAWN OF THE DEAD (D: ) --> VIDEO_TS --> OK
(Add the AUDIO_TS folder too if there are any files there -it's usually empty-)
2. Change the Output Folder (top right hand corner) to a folder of your choice if desired
3. Transcode --> Transcode Audio Only
The program will work its magic and you'll get a bunch of .m4a files in your output folder.

Sounds good.
Off to look and see if there is a Linux version or source I can compile. I suspect not, but you never know........Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
