Sorry you've experienced similar. Its stressful at best. Hope you're sorted now.

I did actually instruct a (recommended) solicitor, who wasted 2 months, sent 1 letter, left the law firm who then let me know that there was no one else to help me, enclosing a bill for £350. I haven't paid it yet as still in shock.

builder PS from somerset. wouldn't be surprised if there were a few name changes along the way. would explain why i can't trace him at companies house, etc.

as has been mentioned seek legal advice from a solicitor in your area - most will do a free consultation for 1/2 hour or so

some will do a non win no fee which may be better in your case BUT make sure you get down BEFORE you sign any paperwork what you will have to pay if you win OR loose.

this is crucial becuase many people have been stung for third party costs

Sorry to hear this, but in fact you got off lightly - I have spent almost £10000 to date (including £2500 just to find out what was wrong) and no, it isn't sorted.

But I would contest the bill if I were you - tell them the solicitor told you s/he could help, so you want the bill reduced as very little seems to have been done. My experience indicates you may get it reduced a bit.....
