Possible fraudulent call?

Hello there,
Earlier today I received a call from 08007838422, the woman on the other end asked for a person I'm not associated with so I promptly stopped the call and said she'd got the wrong number
One minute later, same woman, same number rings back and asks for me. She claims to be from "HSBC International" and requests my Date of Birth on behalf of security, at this point I got very irrational and angry and told her I refuse to give any details out over the phone, before hanging up.
Upon googling the number, I've had mixed results in my research as to whether this was an official or fraudulent call, some people are saying it's official, some people say it's fraud.
I'm trying to find who to call at HSBC to ask about it, but their "contact us" page is a myriad of numbers and contact addresses that's confusing to navigate, why don't they just have a simple "customer service number"?
Anyway, any ideas on what I should do if they ring me back?

give them a ring on 0845 7 404 404 and as them what the call was about0

or go to the saynoto0870 website and get a geographical number for HSBC and call their Head OfficeThe mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work unless it’s open.:o

0845 is a local rate number and not a premium 0870 number0 -

Thanks, that did the job.
Called them up and they said that number was official and they were probably enquiring about the fact that I had 4 correspondence addresses on their system (I'm a student so I move about a lot) and were wondering which was my main address.
Problem resolved, I hope.
EDIT: Still not happy about them calling me and asking for my DOB though, I refuse to give any details out over the phone if people have rung me.Can I afford to buy? Mortgage Affordability Calculator

If in doubt tell them you will call them back and only use a number you know is direct for them:money:0 -

You may call it that - the phone companies don't. They call it a non-geographical number NGN and charge far more than a "local" call. Upto 4ppm during the day. For most moneysavers (who've been around a while and followed martins advice) real local calls (the same as national these days) cost nothing.0 -
