white van fan

Hi

Anybody know an insurance company out there who are prepared to believe that owning a van does not mean you are using it commercially?

I bought my small van because I rarely carried anybody in the back but the van proves useful for the dog, the shopping and various DIY projects. Most insurers can't conceive that this may be the case and so the premium is usually around double for the car equivalent.

Thanks in advance

Depends on the size of the van? If it's car derived it shouldn't be an issue, given your reasons for owning it.

Try Adrian Flux - http://www.adrianflux.co.uk/ - I had a van for hobby related uses, and it was insured 'normally' with them, with no issues. And they're less hassle to deal with than most vehicle insurance companies.

    Hope this helps.

I used to pay £100 fully comp for my Escort and last year paid double that for my newly acquired Kangoo (yes it is a car-derived van) with the same engine size. Annoyingly, although newer and cleaner it costs more to road tax as well. My mate drives a large VW transporter van and it is the same as taxing a car! Can't quite work out the logic behind the road tax system?

I am a part-time adult education tutor - incidentally a job like many others which are impossible to enter into the fields on comparison websites - these usually insist on 'teacher'.

Insurance due this month so will let you know if I get anywhere near my old car premium.
