Cheapest used car
Hi was hoping you knowledgeable people could help me out.
I am in the market for a cheap used car, the cheapest available, dont care about age or type, just that it runs ok. I have a mechanic friend who will help me check its ok and can do any bits of work on it.
I remember from a top gear program Clarkson once claimed to have bought a car for £1 from a garage as it had been part of a trade in and garage did not want it. Does this still happen?
If not whats my best bet for a really cheap car?

Dunno bout getting one for £1 but we got one for £50 with tax and test, g reg escort, I drove it for 6 months then we sold it for a nice profit. We got it from a ford main agent, but we knew someone who worked in there, as the cheapies are usually kept for the staff, but worth an ask round. Dont know where you live but around here, (norfolk) cheap cars turn up quite a bit, need to look in local free ads(yellow page thing), or in supermarkets or local newsagent windows.0

It's pointless trying to name a specific type of car as condition and length of MOT are the most important points,i would look for something they made loads of,ensuring you can get parts if you need them and you will!! from the scrappies.
You also want something that is as cheap to run as poss.,on fuel, insurance and such.As you have help from a mechanic i would let him make the choice for you if possible,GOOD LUCK
There are two sides to every story.

On Clarkson getting a car for £1, they used to have to pay to scrap them so got rid of them for next to nothing, so they didn't have to pay to scrap them. Now apparently manufacturers have to cover any costs involved and the value of scrap metal is quite high now anyway which means those sort of bargains are less likely.
I would say a good car to get is a Skoda Favorit or the newer version of it a Felicia. But it really depends on what comes up and what opportunities there are. When it comes to buying at the bottom end of the market you have to be prepared to take whatever turns up cheap I imagine and be able to check there and then that it is in good condition and hand over the cash before someone else buys it. Make sure to know how much the insurance will cost before commiting.0 -

avantra none of your links seem to work for me but a search of autotrader brings up this, I assume it is the one.
Looks like it may be missing a front undershield and the hot air supply pipe is detatched but none of those things are serious. I'd be mostly concerned about the misfiring but it should hopefully be something simple to sort.0
