Hi my OH loves BLT sandwiches but wanting to convert him to mse am going to make them at home to take instead of buying them at work, just wondered if any shops stock that pre cooked (sweet cure?) streaky bacon that you get in the sandwiches, just shopped online at asda but couldn't find it. Seem to remember seeing it somewhere (maybe morrisons?) Thanks PP

Hi
You can get it from M&S (Simply Food) in both smoked and unsmoked varieties, and I recently saw it at my local Sainsburys too.
I must admit I love the unsmoked one from Marks, it's about £1.99 though!

Not really very old-style.. surely you could buy bacon and cook it yourself instead?0
-
I know Waitrose do this but why on earth would you want to pay more compared to just doing it yourself, it's hardly difficult.0

Costco sell huge buckets of it, not sure how long the use by date is but I know its much cheaper than buying in the supermarket0

i would buy some streaky bacon (uncooked) wrap it up in clingfilm say 2 slices at a time and then cook off the night before what you need for the sandwichThe mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work unless it’s open.:o

I bought some of this recently. It was 99p from morrisons for the sweetcure streaky stuff. To be fair I don't think you could buy it uncooked and cook it for less considering how many slices you get in a pack (and it's much nicer than just normal cheap streaky bacon)0

I have cooked it myself but it just isn't the same and considering the price of a pre packed sarnie I am sure I can buy the pre cooked stuff along with everything else and still save a bit. Thanks PPLBM-29/08/07

Tesco's own version is about £1.49 a pack IIRC and it's available as smoked which is rather delish in a sarnie with cream cheese.0

All in the technique! Mine is always perfect, just like in the pricey sandwiches form Pret a Manger.0 -
