My first PC was a dell and it lasted me 6 years. The objective was just to have a PC through my Uni days and it did the job perfectly well. Until I managed to save up a bit of cash and replace it with something better.

These are the bits I bought to make mine in March, most parts came from Novatech, the RAM from EBay USA and the graphics card from EBay UK.
This was taken from the E-Mail to the guy who built it.

There was nothing wrong with Tiny computers? But they still went under?????????
The Athlon 64 Cpu is a good buy, i have the Athlon 64 3800+ and its fast as a sports car with less smoke :-)
Dell are ok if they work? if they dont then you can moan on here about it?I'm not poor i'm just skint0 -

The poster asked for a 'nothing fancy PC' and thats what Dell sell. To be honest I'd rather spend my money on a large TFT and lower spec machine rather a fast and expensive processor.
As for Dell are ok if they work - a bit of an inane comment really as in my experience most things are ok if they work !0 -
Think I was done by marketing again!!
Just picked up a Pentium 4 2.93Ghz, 200Gb hard disk, 1024Mb RAM, dual DVD RW drives and 17" TFT. £599. I'll settle for that.
