What is the point, using a credit card?

Hi, there.
I finally could have a credit card in this country.(I am not a british nor europian.)
When I using it, the amount is appeared only after 2-3 days on my credit card statement and so I have to pay it off the end of the month if I don`t want to pay charge.
My question is what is the point using a credit card if I have to pay so soon?
In my country, usually appear the amount on the statement 1-2 months later and so I have a time to pay for it.
I am always wondered this, but is my question strange?????:o
