Starting the process of buying a new kitchen....

Options
We have finally taken the plunge and decided to have a new kitchen.

On Sunday we wisited a local kitchen company (independant) to get an idea of whats was available and what it would cost.

Bear in mind that our kitchen is very small, comprising of just 6 base units (it's a galley so 3 either side) and 3 wall units (i.e. two glass cupboards and an extractor unit)

The full specification is:

2 Pull out drawers units
1 Cooker housing
1 Fridge Housing
1 Slimline dishwasher housing
1 Thin pull out drawers (with the extra space gained from the slimline DW)
1 Sink unik
2 Glass wall cabinets
1 Extractor type thing (can't think of the proper name!)
Sparkly worktops

The quote came through stating

To Supply kitchen as per plan in Arundal natural oak

Price includes
all units, cornice, pelmets and plinths
handles
CDA appliances
Oven, hob, cooker hood, dishwasher, fridge, under mount sink and taps
Minerelle worktops.
All for the 'reasonable' sum of £8007 inc vat!

Obviously we are getting other quotes but I have to say that I am surprised by this price......

I have asked for a full cost breakdown (to see if this is just a mickey mouse guestimate!) to hopefully find out where they think the costs are. Looking on the web I was able to buy the appliances they specified (All CDA which we are really not that bothered about) for £1500, leaving the 9 units therefore costing approx £6500 (thats £723 fitted each:eek::eek:). I'm not sure that they are made out of gold (i'll check if they send a breakdown....)

The plan is to buy some nice bosch appliance rather than CDA but the company didn't have the right broucher ?

Anyone got any recommendations? We live in the Northamptonshire area (also close to Milton Keynes) where we might get a more realistic quote?

    quote?

If your appliances are 1.5k (remember that internet price does NOT include fitting them.

So thats 6.5k & they are fitting them in that price.

Thats quite an expensive worktop Worktop 2050x650x40 £230.00

    4100x650x40 £399.00

Not your normal laminate, how much of that are you having?

Oak kitchen, oak is about the most expensive.

Intergrated appliances, oven, hob, extractor, DW & fridge.

Under mount sink, is that a special cut & seal on the work top?

    Get some more quotes.

The two worktops would be 3 units long each (i.e. 60cm x 3 = 180cm ) - We didn't really want laminate and realised that the worktop would be realitively expensive.

Undermount Sink had curved corners needing to be cut in the worktop, but the sink was of steel construction (Might be Franke - can't remember!)

We bought an oak kichen from Wickes. They have lots of offer. We got intrest free credit for 6 months too.
Just counted, there are 12 wall units including 6 with glass and 12 base units including 2 corners and 8 decrotive ends. Included were free intergrated Electrolux d/w and AEG w/m. All this came to £5100.
    Also
Ceramic 'butterfly' shaped sink - £180 http://www.sinks.co.uk/shop.php?cat=5&sub=&page=1&ord=cardinality&view=17407&referer= I love this sink - especially my price!
    Tap - £120
    Worktop - £430 (wanted laminate) (1 x 3m + 1 x 4m + 1 x 3m wide)
    Fitting - £1500 (not Wickes)
    Then
    Range cooker - £1200
    Cooker hood - £115
    Floor - £300
    Lights under wall units £30
    Gold coloured sockets 5 x £2 (car boot:D )
    Tiles - £3 (car boot)
Never added it up but seemed a good price

We are looking at new kitchens too.

If you want your new kitchen to last forever and wont want to change it then go for Oak but it is expensive.

We are looking at Focus and Homebase at the moment, Focus have their new range in stores now (I've just been and with 60% off units. Also Homebase have them on offer.

We might choose a gloss white kitchen, should cost no more than 2k with all new appliances.

Sounds as if your sparkly worktops are Quartz, very nice  and very expensive:eek: . If your going to add product like this expect to pay a lot of money. This is not a plug for B&Q, honestly! But it is worth getting a comparison quote form them as they do their own range of solid worktops called Speedstone. B&Q solid worktops can be fitted onsite where as others have to template and send away, which means that you have to wait a week or two extra to get your kitchen finished.

Also be wary of sales offers at the moment. There’s usually a big sales drive over Easter. That’s when you’ll get the best deals, might be worth waiting a little while.;)
  • have a look to see if yo0uve got a howdens near you, they were great when i wanted mine doing in my old house, they measure up and do you quotes and plans free and were the best price and quality for me:)

Howdens are the old mfi. The product isn’t that bad but you definitely don’t get great prices. The best Howdens trade prices are equal or more than high street stores. And don’t buy anything other than carcasses and doors from them their appliances are ridiculously over priced.
