    Hey there!

I'm also from N.Ire- hello! We stayed in a fantastic hotel in July called Hotel Regencia Colon. It's very clean and comfortable, good air conditioning and the staff are very friendly. It's situated in a quiet side street beside the cathedral of Barcelona (it has a lovely square at the front of it too with some nice eateries. Regencia Colon is the smaller section of a larger, more plush hotel- However you get the same quality of service as the main hotel for a smaller price. It's just across the road from a tourist bus stop and about a 5 minute walk from Las Ramblas- far enough away to be quiet yet central enough to many attractions including the cathedral, ramblas, the colom statue (you can go right to the top of it in a lift- scary!) also about a 15 min walk from the harbour. Well connected by trains etc.. let me know if you wanna know more. http://www.hotelregenciacolon.com/eng/hotel/index.asp (You can book on here however we found cheaper rates by searching the hotel name and 'lastminute.com' on google

I liked NH Duc de la Victoria when I stayed in Barcelona - very central yet quiet at night time!

Not sure I can help with a cheap hotel as we stayed at a 4* last week. But this may help save you a few quid on transport. I posted it on another thread the other day:

A big money saving tip for Barcelona: The Aerobus transfer from the airport to the centre is now e4.05 per person, each way. But there is also a normal bus service that goes to and from Placa Espanya, No.46, which costs a normal fare, e1.30. It leaves from outside the terminal, just turn right from the arrivals hall. From Placa Espanya you can get the metro to wherever you are staying.

It gets better though. Get a T-10 ticket which is valid on all buses and metros. It gives 10 journeys for e7.20, and you can use it on the 46, so it means you pay e0.72 instead of e4.05. If there are 2 of you, all you do at each journey is validate it twice, you don't have to buy separate tickets. Also, if you have used the metro on your ticket, you can continue your journey on a bus as long as you do it all within 75 minutes, without validating it again.

Hotel Mont Blanc 5 min walk from la ramblas, has a lovely swimming pool and the rooms are nice, book through the hotel website and it should include breakfast.

My sister and I have just come back from five nights at the Hotel Condal on Boqueria. It's a lovely basic clean hotel with friendly staff... it has a fantastic location on a side road halfway down Las Ramblas and the hotel itself is just a few metres from Las Ramblas.

We paid £68 per night for the room. Breakfast is extra but we usually chose to eat local food at the nearby market and small bakeries.

The hotel's location is great because it's centrally located within the city centre and I saved money compared to the last hotel I stayed in that was a metro-ride away. At night we were able to walk along busy roads to El Born, Barri Gothic, El Ravel, the marina etc, and as two girls on our own we felt safe.

When looking at places to stay, lower El Ravel is best avoided and beware that some of Barri Gothic/Old Town is a rabbit warren of small streets. Also remember Barcelona can be noisy as the streets are cleaned and bins emptied during the night!
