Selling books on Amazon - tips?

Forgive me if I've posted this in the wrong place or if someone else has already asked this question - I couldn't find it anywhere!
I'm thinking about selling some of my unwanted books on Amazon. Is this a good way to make a few extra pounds? What sells well? Any hints or tips on what to do (or not, as the case may be!)
Thanks,
emptypurse

Amazon take a percentage cut of the cost if you are not a trader and that includes the postage set rate that you receive so be careful especially with larger/ heavier books that they do not over exceed the postage meaning you get very little back money wise or even ends up costing you. You get a lot less postage for dvd and cd's. Your rate is stated at the end of the form that you fill in before you submit it but always remember to consider expenses out of that ( postage/ cost to get to post office etc)
You do not control the postage rate and be wary of the different prices the post office have for parcel including overseas. ( they have differed a lot at times) You can decided if you post abroad or just uk ( postage is more for abroad but still commission is taken off and VAT - about 2 ish out of 20 books for me seem to be for abroad)
Books that are hard to get or out of print or there are few listed sell if someone is looking for them as long as the price is right. There is no clear set out for what books will sell but if there is already 40 - 100 plus people selling a book for 1p then it will rarely sell.
I have found some books at high prices can a few weeks later be overloaded with others listing the same book and the rate then drops to the minimum (1p -which depends how desperate you are to clear them out) and vicer versa so its worth checking evey few days what the rate they are priced at.
There is no charge if the books do not sell and after 60 days you can relist them.
Had an issue 6 months ago when amazon was relisting books that had sold and then being bought again so refunds having to be made but this has not happened since.
Payment never been an issue ( as long as bank account is set up) although be wary of scammers who pretend.
Some months it is quiet yet recently i have sold quite a few books the last few weeks - my main reason is to clear them out of the house as i have a lot of books. Building up good feedback in time does help a lot as this gives buyers confidence so get the book posted early ( 2 days is stated site time - i post them the next day ). Also get proof of posting for all the books you post.
You can block for any time you are on holiday/ away and remove it when you are back and also see all your earnings and the credit statements.

Hi all,
I have about 200 paperbacks all in great condition that I would like to sell. Does anybody know of a way to sell these all in one go? As ebaying one at a time is taking forever.

I've tried selling books at carboots & they rarely sell, I find Amazon better than ebay for selling books.

Greenmetropolis are very good, it can take a long time for stuff to sell though, but it doesn't cost anything to list.0

depending on what the subjects are, i would try a 2nd hand book shop, i would imagine you could do better there than anywhere else, and get rid of the lot in one go. I am sure there are 2nd hand book shops in your area?0

Hello
How about putting them on GreenMetropolis on the internet? They sell books by putting in the number on the back (on/near the bar code.
Hope that makes sense.

Someone may well be interested in them as a job lot on ebay though?
You needn't list them all individually, just take a few photos and do collection only.
I always use Amazon for selling my books but they tend to be non-fiction textbooks which sell for a bit more than fiction.
Good luck0 -
When I do carboots, I always have a ton of books with me and they sell really well! I made £100 last time, and last year I made £180!
I don't put a price, and say hardbacks £1, paperbacks 50p. I find people are almost fighting over them!
I guess it depends on what sort of books they are too... I have a lot of crime books and girly books, as well a few others.
Good Luck! xBecame Mrs Scotland 16.01.16
