Bit Down!

Been on Dmp for 2 years in Sept , and have been coping just about!! Increased our DMP with CCCS in Dec and had been feeling good about paying our debt off asap.
Now DH payday still a week away and we have £93 to live on!!! That's taken care of by £30 petrol, £35 food shopping (and that's only basics) and the rest just to get by! Whilst I feel good about knowing exactly how much we have and also to some extent being able to budget....it sometimes gets me down..especially when people at work are booking hols abroad or getting new cars etc...I'm hoping ours will last at least another 5 years!!! I know it's our own fault we got into debt.

Sorry to go on......think I need a good kicking!!!

Don't worry hitback, we all feel like that from time to time. It is really difficult but the week will go really fast and I'm sure your DFD will come along before you know it.
I'm feeling like this at the minute (read the thread 'I'm so annoyed, I might be paid £300 less than I need' if you want to know why)
I'd already made plans for this week, the gym tomorrow night at £3.50 and drinks at the weekend for a friend's birthday but it looks like I'm going to have to cancel everything now to save the cash.
It'll be over before you know it and don't be hard on yourself.

Don't be so hard on yourself, my debt are almost equal to yours and we will ge there. I look at it in terms of how my children have grown up, just the other DD started primary, she starts year 7 this September, that time has pass so quickly.

The only sadness I feel is that I didn't get to this board years ago and started my DF. WE WILL DO IT.

  • Everyone has ups and downs. Two years of living on a tight budget and the prospect of another five doesn't sound the easiest of tasks. Im sure you will do great.

((((hugs)))) rather than a good kicking are whats needed I think.

I know it's hard, but when I see other people at work driving the latest Audi, I remind myself that it's all done on credit-I have chosen not to live my life like that any more, and although sometimes I would love to go and spend £800 on clothes (one of the secretaries in my department did this at the weekend because she was feeling 'a bit down!') I know that I am happier living within my means. I actually feel sorry for them, because I can't make them have their light bulb moments, although some of them desperately need it!

You need to remember that the majority of those having expensive hols and new cars will be borrowing to pay for it, they havent seen the light, but you are one step ahead of them :)

Can you cut down on the diesel, that sounds a lot. Live from the store cupboard, make it a personal challenge, its quite good fun to see what you can make with what you have.

Do you know what, even if I had more money, I still wouldn't "waste" £800 on clothes I would still go to Primark. Imagine how long that took to earn. I wouldn't swap my car either, it gets me from a-b & goes ok, that's all you need.
I know it's hard when everyone seems to have it so easy, but you really don't know thier situation & as others have said it's probably all on credit.
It must be a strain for you, I understand being on a tight budget for so long, I've only been doing this budgetting malarky for a year & it gets me down too, it will be worth it in the end though, keep going

Like everyone else has said - your work buddys haven't had LBM yet... in 5 years time when you are out of debt and booking YOUR holiday, they will be asking you how can you afford it as they will all be in huge amounts of debt by then.
Plus you (like the rest of us) understand the value of money now. I would get the same feeling buying a £5 top and a new eyeshadow as many would from spending £800 on clothes

Store cupboard is a good idea, i did this last weekend and made a lasagne! £30 petrol sounds a lot but i have to do a 40 mile round trip every day for work. I'm trying to organise a car share at work as I know there are people who live near me, and I'm sure they'd be happy to reduce their fuel bills too! Have been looking back through the forum at money making ideas and have decided to join Quidco! Thanks everyone for picking me up!
