in Credit cards
I'm looking for a balance transfer and the best deal at the moment seems to me to be with Barclaycard, who are offering 0% for 12 months + 2.5% fee. But I can't choose between these two:
* The OnePulse card, with built-in Oyster and cashless pay system.
Pros:
1. I enjoy using new technology.
2. Talking point.
3. I work in London and currently have an Oyster card, so it's one less card in my bulging wallet (sadly only bulging with everything other than money.)
4. Can pay for a £1 cup of coffee with credit (56 days interest-free), using cashless payment.
Cons:
1. Thrill of new technology will quickly wear off.
2. Talking point for geeks only.
3. Cannot lend my Oyster card to a friend (which I sometimes do) because it will have a credit card attached to it.
4. Virtually no-one currently accepts cashless payments. Even if they did, I would have to wait 12 months and pay off the balance before using the card for purchases (to avoid interest.)
* The Platinum Cashback card, offering 1% on supermarket shopping with a maximum of £180 per year.
Pros:
1. While most other cashback cards give 0.25% to 0.5%, this one gives a much better rate.
2. Most of my spending is at the supermarket.
Cons:
1. I will not be using the card for spending until I pay off the balance at the promotional rate, so for 12 months I will not be earning cashback.
2. After 12 months, the cashback rate may well drop to the average 0.25-0.5%. I have seen this happen with my other credit cards.
My guess is there's not much to choose between the two. So I'll sit on the fence and let you all decide for me.
