hsbc

I received a letter from hsbc the other day thanking me for registering for internet banking. And with it came my personal internet banking user ID. There's just one problem I haven't registered for hsbc internet banking I have an Isa with hsbc thats it. I rang the call centre to explain that I hadn't registered for internet banking but it was like banging my head against a brick wall they just didn't seen to understand what I was talking about, they kept asking me if I wanted to change my personal security number. In the end I gave up do you think I have anything to worry about?

hi dollybird, sorry to hear about that!

I know how HSBC works because I may/may not work in the call centres for them(depending on who reads this!)

Basically when you opened your ISA the branch may have set up telephone and internet banking.

If the branch didn't then if you ever rang up regarding the ISA a CSR may have registered you for IB (both CSR's and branch staff have targets for tel banking and internet banking registrations). In whichever case this shouldn't have happened and it is possible to find out who did it.

Ring up (crossing your fingers you get through to one of us lot in a UK centre!) and explain the situation. Ask the rep to check your customer contact history, and ask where product/service provided is logged against services/internet banking.

When the rep has done that explain you wish to make a complaint against that member of staff and that member of staff will receive an error, thus reducing their bonus!

But in answer to your original q, you don't have anything to worry about!
