Eletricity meter estimate dispute. Help!
Options
I have been an EDF customer for over a year now and I have realised that my electricity bill has been based on estimates. I never query my bills and always pay the required amount. I recently received a quarterly bill of about £190. I called Edf and gave them an actual reading from my electricity meter. My bill of £190 was immediately dropped to £120. That is £70 they would have over charged me by.
The dispute is that edf are refusing to back date my bills and refund me the difference. The fact is that they have never read my meter and have being charging me estimate.
I would like to know if they are allowed to do this. It doesn’t seem fair.
All advice is much appreciated.

I'm assuming you mean you think you should get a rebate off each previous bill as well? Meter readings are cumulative, so they haven't overchrged you by £70 this quarter but by £70 since your meter was last read (probably whe you switched). Each month they would have estimated a few units over, building up to the £70 overcharge over the period. They have knocked it all off the one bill rather than reissue multiple bills with a few pounds off each one.0

If all your bills up to now have been estimated, and now you given them a correct reading, the amount (of £70) over estimated, has accumulated over the year, and has now been corrected by your reading, thus reducing this quarters bill. They do not owe you a refund for previous months, and you are now up to date.0

OP for a minute there i thought it was April 1st !!!!
Edf allow you to take your own readings and submit them via a freephone 0800 number or via their web site.
If you do the readings your self and have a Nectar card you receive points for free!!

April 1st seems to be coming around earlier each year!!!!
Made me laugh though:D
WOULD be nice if you could get your supplier to give you a nice fat refund (for nothing) each month:eek:0 -

Found this thread with the following:i have recently graduated university and am looking to get on the property ladder. i have researched a few options such as the new build homebuy / shared ownership/ shared equity scheme. does anybody have experience or information which the they would be relevant to me.
Made me smile at first but it soon wore off.
