I've just moved into a new flat with a prepay electric meter.
1. When i ring to register as the new tenant, can i switch to a bill meter, and what are the proceedings of this?
2. How is a billed meter cheaper than a prepay meter?
Thanks

1) You need to ask the utility company if you can change it. Each has a different procedure - some will do a credit check, others say you have to be with them for so many months first. If the provider you are with at the moment won't change it, try swiching to another company.
2) Most providers charge more per unit and/or a higher standing charge on a prepay meter. The exception to this is Ebico who charge the same regardless of what meter you have.0 -
Thanks for that:)
Another question;
Although i would obviously notify, do i need the agency's explicit permission to change from a prepay meter?0
