Cheqoe recd - in euros!

I state quite clearly that I only accept payment in GBP and have recd a cheque from France in euros. Will my bank take it (HSBC) and will there be any costs? When I said to buyer that it said GBP only they said they have np other way to pay and if 'I' wanted to we could annul the transaction. I don't see why I should, if there are charges for cashing the cheque I will destroy it and open an NPB.

The last time I asked HSBC they wanted approx £7 to 'receive it' and they said it would take several weeks to fully clear although I could draw funds against it within 10 working days. However the systems have recently changed for clearing cheques and I don't know if this applies to non sterling as well, so it might be worth phoning HSBC and asking.

If there is any charge at all or any inconvenience then inform the buyer that an acceptable payment has not been received and give her the chance to make a new payment is sterling. If she can't or won;t then as you say just start the NPB on the basis that a proper payment has not been received.

    Too true!

I also tried Barclays to see if they would take my cheque and they wanted £12..so it is obviously a charge set by the individual bank and not banks generally.

    Hello, occasional lurker !
I recently banked a 15 euro cheque with A&L and after it mot showing on my omline account, I phoned them and was told they have a 25 euro minimum as their charge is £10 handling and that they are returning it to me as it would mean I would have very little left if they had processed it.
I'm now waiting for reply from buyer about alternative payment.
