are their any 50/50 mortgages , shared ownership schemes in orkney.... just a thought but you could ask, also if you talk to the council housing and explain the exceptional needs that your family are facing perhaps they will rent a suitable home to you whilst you sell yours..
i'd love to know how you get on as a fellow mum of asd and also as i hope to move to orkney in 4 yrs
