Hope someone can help - need some inspiration to keep the juniors occupied at the school discos.....
We run about 6 discos for the children a year splitting them between infants and juniors. They are great fun and successful in the fundraising.
For both discos we have a child friendly dj who plays great music and does party games with spot prizes.
For the infants we usually have a tuck shop, do face painting, nail painting and tattoos and these keep the infants well occupied and entertained.
For the juniors we continue the tuck shop and have nail painting and tattoos(which only the girls are moderately interested in) so we are looking for some other ideas of things we can 'do' for the juniors
One suggestion is to have hair gelling / coloured spraying (although there are a whole host of issues there that are under review before we go ahead  )
We may look at the sale of glowsticks .
Does anyone else have any suggestions please...
PS Not sure if this is the right place so feel free to move if there is somewhere more appropriate..

Blimming hell. I left primary school in 1998, only ever had one school disco i think. All we had was a dancing competition that was judged, a DJ who chucked out lollies and a over active smoke machine. We were happy as larry with that!!
kids today eh!
I like the glowstick idea, that will go down a STORM.0 -
Glowsticks will go down very well!
We did a charity fundraiser at school and I sold glowsticks for 50p each. I initially thought that was a bit expensive, but they all went within minutes! Here I go again on my own....0 -
We get our glowsticks from www.glowsticksdirect.co.uk
They work out at 8p each.
How much are you trying to raise?
We have 350 kids, generally get 200 to a disco and cut down on costs by having the discos back to back, and only paying the DJ once. Infants 5:45-7:00, juniors 7:15 to 8:30. DJ cost £100.
Entrance fee is £2 which includes a packet of crisps and a bottle of water. Small sweet shop too and glowsticks. We generally make £300 per disco. If we have more than 2 discos a year the novelty wears off and attendance figures drop.
We also have cinema style film nights. School already have the projection equipment for showing films and a broadcasting licence. Donation of £2 per child, water and popcorn included. Infants followed by juniors (1 hour -1:15 minute films). No outlay other than food and drink profit generally £400.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Our school sounds similar to moo2moo's, 2 discos a year. One at Christmas and one at the ned of the summer term. We also split it into KS1 and KS2. We don't run them as fundraisers but we uusally turn a fair profit. We charge £1 entry and run a tuck shop and also sell glowsticks. The children absolutley love the glowsticks and we can't sell them fast enough, we also charge 50p for them and I think we get them from the site mentioned above.
In short sell glowsticks, you'll make a bit of xcash and the children will love them. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Thanks for that, we usually run discos at Valentines, Easter, Summer (Leavers Disco), Halloween and Christmas. We charge £1.50 entrance and also make a fair profit on the nail and face painting .
Attendance is pretty good with about 200 children over the 2 discos, like moo2moo and BillScarab, we run the infants from 6 - 7 then the junior one from 7.15 - 8.30.
So it is not so much about the additional profit but rather additional activities we could include for the juniors - we will definately look at selling glowsticks for their disco (we had an incident a couple of years ago with one of the younger children biting a glowstick and having flourescent stuff everywhere!)It's easier to get forgiveness than to ask permission0
