Hello,
I am going on holiday on the 28th of march to holland and we are getting the ferry from harwich to the hook.

does anyone travel around this area, harwich that is? we have taken this route so we don't have to drive round the m25 to dover. we are coming from up north near leeds. I am worried as there is only one sailing and if we miss it we are in the poo!

we are aiming to set off at 4am to make it for 8am does this sound reasonable?

thanks

If you're coming from Leeds then you might possibly be going along the A14. Why not stay at this Travelodge the night before:

    Ipswich Beacon Hill A14/A140

    This room is available
    SAVER RATE

    Family Room (Non-smoking)

Ensuite room with double bed, sofa and pullout.
    Sleeps 4 (maximum 3 adults).
    £19.00 per night

That's for arriving on 27th March.

It's the second closest Travelodge to Harwich and is 11 miles away.

Not worth taking the risk to miss a holiday ferry IMHO.

I live in Essex and used to live in Yorkshire...

    Two choices:

A1/A1M, then A14 to M11, then M11 Jct 8 onto A120 which takes you all the way to Harwich. It is important to get past Cambridge by 6 am as it can get very congested in the rush hour. This route avoid all of the M1 problems and takes advantage of some of the new sections of the A120.

    or

A1 / A1M, A14 to Ipswich, A12, then A120 to Harwich, but watch out because the section of the A14 past Cambridge towards Ipswich is prone to accidents and you will be going with the rush hour traffic along the A12.

Both these routes avoid the M1 and M25 which are a nightmare on a weekday morning.

4 hours is cutting it very fine allowing for check in time. I would leave at 3am and arrive early.
