Free Blister Packs for those on Medication

The service that you can get from (most) local pharmacies is called a Dossett Box system.
My father had just been put on Warfarin and his dose changes frequently and he gets confused, add to the mix that he is partially-sighted and live 250 miles from me, and you can see my concerns.
His local pharmacy sorts his medication for him into a dossett box, delivers him 4 weeks supply and then if his dose changes within the 4 weeks, they collect the dosset box and change the dose accordlingly and re-deliver it - all for FREE!
Its a bit of a military operation to ensure that the hospital blood testing dept remember to fax through the details to the pharmacy, but it has been working really well for several weeks now.
I would highly recommend the use of Dossett boxes for you (or your family) if you take lots of medication and/or get confused.
as an aside, my Dad always forgets it's called a Dosset box and has taken to calling it his Ipod! Bless, he doesn't (or didn't) even know what an Ipod is! :rotfl:0 -
I've recently found medicineblisterpacks.co.uk on the internet and the communication was fantastic! My Father (91 years) suffers from Parkinsons and has various other medications he has to have at certain times during the day - the local pharmacy next to his GP surgery has been charging up to £24 per month to dispense his medication into blister packs, together with 5 tablets per day for my mother, to be delivered within one mile of the pharmacy. I've spoken to the three other pharmacies in the town and none have been able to help. It really does seem ludicrous that, for my parents to have free blister packed medication, a pharmacy, 180 miles away, will not only request the prescription to be sent to them at the correct time, enclose a pre paid envelope for its return, and also pack and send it, recorded delivery, free-of-charge, to arrive on time.0

Its great how they re-order the medication for you so you dont have to worry about it at all. Making sure my parents have got their medication and they are taking it properly was a real stress for me before but now i'm confident that they are getting what they need.0 -
What if you can't remember what day it is in the first place?
Seriously though I wouldn't trust any 3rd party company with mailing me my repeat prescriptions, not only is there risk of theft, but at least your local chemist will have your history on file and can instantly prevent any drug contradictions.
Do pharmacies really keep records on individuals like this?
Is there no escape from a database?0 -

Yes they do.
Plus also they must have a form of database anyway so they know who has been dispensed the medicine anyway.
How do you think the chemists get paid after giving you the prescription. The more I live, the more I learn.
The more I learn, the more I grow.
The more I grow, the more I see.
The more I see, the more I know.
The more I know, the more I see,
How little I know.!!0
