If I was you I would disconnect the bell and say nothing to anybody! I left my last house because of the noisy neighbours, they were lovely people but noisy as hell, I asked them a couple of times to be quieter. They were very apologetic but obviously my idea of noise and theirs was very different. I was going to move anyway (I had a right to buy house, having lived there 27 years), so when my 3 years was up I moved away, saying nothing to anyone about the noise. Funnily enough the people who bought my house love it there, they've never mentioned any problem with noisy neighbours.
  • Hi Willis,

Your post gave me a trip down memory lane. When I was 14 years old or so. Me and a mate every Friday night on the way to Scouts used to knock on the door of the same house and run off week after week after week. Sometimes both on the way and on the way back. No doubt it was disturbing and annoying for the owners of that house.

Why that house ? Just totally random. Why did we do it bored / silly. It just became part of our routine. I guess in the end it stopped once we grew up.

We also used to take empty milk bottles of porches and smash them in the street and run off (to my shame now):o

Fast forward 20 years. Now I am 34 years old, married, mortgaged, got a 16 month old boy. I am a law abiding, hard working tax payer who votes in every election and reads The Times! One could say a model citizen.

Yesterday cycling home from work I rebuked a young boy who was throwing stones at a cat. A few weeks before that I got the dust pan and brush from our kitchin and went out to an alley near a play ground near our house and swept up a lot of broken glass (I was worried about children / dogs cutting themselves on it).

Moral of the story. It may not be personnel and malicious but just random teenage stupidity.

What can I suggest? Particuarly if you are moving soon I would be inclined to maybe just ignore it / turn the lights off etc if it looks like no one is at home and they get no reaction, they might move on. Or if you have any big friends / family maybe have them visible for a few days around the time it occurs e.g on the drive / in the living room / curtains open.

However if it escalates into stone throwing / damage the house. I would kick up a fuss, try to involve the neighbours phone 999 at every opportunity / see if you have a local community policeman etc etc.

Hopefully the issue will resolve itself. I wish you well.

    Best,

Before you report it to the police make sure its not something you have to tell the buyer, otherwise you might scare them off then.. I say ignore it and move on.

Hi willis, same thing happened to me. Kids were about 12 too and used to bang on the door or the window (terraced house straight onto the pavement), after weeks of ignoring it they just stopped. As you're on the way to moving anyway I'd try and ignore them, they'll find someone else to get a reaction from.

One night some idiot walked down the street and cut every phone and TV cable on every house
  • One other anecdotal.

years ago (late seventies) my father used to get the milk / milk money stolen from the porch on our house. It was happening around dawn I was just about 6 / 7 years old at the time but the family legend has it that my dad parked the car on the drive, hid in it and kept watch and on the third night caught a local lad in the act, my dad jumped out gave him the fright off his life and a bit of ear bashing / shouting down etc. He said the lad was terrified/ totally taken by surprise. We never got our milk nicked again after that.

So a proactive option is to park a car / van hide on the back seat or camp inside the house / near the front door ready to burst out at the split second they knock (or get a big athletic friend / family member to do it for you).

Personally I would ignore the little sh*ts for a bit longer and hopefully they will move on.

Good luck. Stay positive / philosophical.

    Best.
