Advert for selling car

Hi
I'm going to sell my car soon and will be posting some pictures on a site. I have noticed other sellers hiding their number plates on pictures, is this something I also have to do? Is there any identity fraud risks to this?

I think people tend to do it either because they don't want people cloning the car (then going at 100mph past the speed cameras), or less likely it prevents potential buyers doing a HPI check on the car.

It's an absolutely stupid thing to do and really has no need, I mean do the same people cover their number plates whilst parked at the Supermarket?

anewman - To do an HPI check you need the chassis number :)

I do agree, but say for example you have a certain type of car and want to stick some plates from another car on, you can simply search for that brand of car on the internet and it will come up in seconds. Depending on the car, at the local supermarket there might be none around and you might be searching a while.

Many owners forums recommend removing the registrations from photos put online, and many people use show plates when displaying their car to cover the number plates. I assume there is some reasoning behind this.

Rubbish. Sorry. Depends on the supplier, but Experian can do checks off just a plate.
