I've only just discovered this, but am always wary of things I don't quite understand!
We have a BT landline and are on option one. Our internet provider includes free dialled calls evenings and weekends, so if we have to make calls through the day we have to remember to dial 1280 first then the number, so that BT charges us not our internet provider.
If we were to subscribe to 18185, would we need to dial 1280-18185 first or just 18185? I want to be sure it goes on the BT bill.

It sounds like your ISP also gives you free evenng and weekend telephone call on your BT landline as a CPS provider. As such, your calls go out via your CPS provider by default but, dialling a 1280 prefix will 'force' a call out on BT and a 18185 prefix (not 128018185) will 'force' a call out on 18185.
BT and any CPS calls provider cannot prevent you using 18185 in that way.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Yes thanks for that Heinz.
I got a bit mixed up there. Of course 18185.com bills for the calls pre-fixed with that number. Doh! having a middle-aged moment there .
Incidentally our evening/weekend calls cps'd through Virgin media at present, I wonder if we should scrap that and go back to BT full time option 1 using 18185 as necessary....:wave:0 -
If you're staying with BT for line rental, BT Together Option 2 ('free' evening and weekend UK 01/02/03 calls of up to 60 minutes each for £2.70/month or for £0/month if you agree to their 12 month 'rolling' contract) might be suitable - with 18185 for weekday daytime and mobile calls of course.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
