Stolen Car's Insurance questions - HELP!!

mad

Over the weekend my wife and I had both our car's stolen. The Police have said that the thieves have hooked the keys through the letter box, can be only explanation as we definately did not leave the keys in the cars. My questions are with regard to what is normal practice for insurance companies. I am with Sainsbury's bank and my wife is with Shiela's Wheels. We have both had telephone interviews, my wife is being sent a claim form after her interview and I have to have another interview with a seperate company.
my questions are:
what is standard practice?
Any advise greatly appreciated as am a little worried:eek:

Well you have to admit having one car stolen is unlucky but to have two stolen at the same time is a little bit suspicious.
I'm not having a pop at you but you will have to be interviewed by the claim assessors.
If they managed to 'hook' your keys did they manage to get into your house and burgle you? The reason I ask is that myself and my wife have one bunch of keys with car and house keys all together.(Would most people have this?)
At the end of the day if you have done nothing wrong then you have nothing to fear.0 -
Both sets of keys had house keys on them both were on the window sills near the door, but they did not enter the house as far as we know i.e. nothing else missing. The police arrived pretty quickly as they were just down the road at a completely similar incident (Same gang I suppose), two cars nicked via keys being hooked. I must admit in that respect we are lucky as I have two little children and the thought of them in the house fills me with fear.
We have not done anything wrong but I am still worried.
Does anyone else know anything about the procedures of these two companies, we were both interviewed by the assess team, but I have to have another interview.
Any help still appreciated0 -

hi Jones MUFC
I have not been on the site for a bit (quite a bit), so i missed your question.
One car was recovered (never going to be the same)and one never recovered (fully paid out after quite a bit of hastle - but best result) So everything ok now. I have learnt a hell of a lot about the process and have complained and been given compensation along the way, so if anyone has had a car stolen recently and is struggling I may be able to offer some advice.
The main things are:
Don't get your car stolen in the first place (Ha ha)
& hope if it is stolen that it never comes back
seriously, though keep tabs on every conversation / correspondence with your insurance company and make sure they follow their own procedures0 -

You've been quite lucky.
I'll also add to the above that you should check your policy details and wording too, for some of the more 'budget' (not always necessarily!) end of companies will not pay out if your keys are taken...0 -
That's interesting. There are a few very common exlusions that are related to the issue of keys, such as:
- loss or damage arising out of theft when the ignition keys have been left in or on the unattended car.
- loss or damage arising out of deception by someone claiming to be a buyer or a buying and selling agent.
- loss or damage arising out of the being taken without consent by a family member or someone living in your home.
