Opinions on Edgware (London HA8, NW9 etc) from anyone who lives there?

  • Borehamwood just had a big new M&S food built.. we're getting a Nandos and KFC built on the high street

You have to know where to live.. i live in 'Studio way'.. a decent part of the town. Elstree is expense, Radlett also.

Big plus is that borehamwood is zone 6.. radlett (one stop on the train) is classed as out of the TFL zone. If you are after a Jewish area, Borehamwood has the fastest growing congregation in the UK, there's a new Jewish primary school being built plus they got an approval for an eruv. There is a kosher bakers and butchers plus the first kosher take-away just opened (but the staff are Israeli and rude as hell!)

I like it, but i live in a good bit :) There's a not-so-pleasant council estate, but where in London isn't there one? We've not seen a single bit of trouble after living here for a year. Plus, Big brother is filmed here and I can see the final show fireworks from my door!

Can't say too much on Edgware, safe but dull I think.

ds1980, Borehamwood is a hole. Local paper is full of stories of Borehamwood crimes, man there set alight and burnt to death outside his home there few years back.

    Cheap, but for a reason.
Wasn't a boy stabbed to death outside an Edgeware school last summer... Barnet General gets a lot of stabbings from the sink estates in Mill Hill
  • I tend to find London is such a mish mash it's almost impossible to find somewhere 'nice' that doesn't border a dodgy area ten minutes down the road. You take things as they come.

With regards to schools I was racking my brains to think of a decent state school in the area, but I think you might be right, all the good ones charge 5000 pounds a term for the privilege.

True say. Mill Hill County is a good school. think top 50 state schools in britain but very hard to get into and is specialist dance and music school.

If your kids are clever enough then you dont need to pay to get into the better schools there a re a numbe rof places for the talented.

Ive been in lonodn now 9 years and have never had any bother ever and ive lived in some fairly rough areas at times. Bets thing to do if you can is take a good drive around. Make sure you do a friday night and a rush hour trip.

Can't believe there are all these people seriously saying Borehamwood is going up in the world!

It's horrible. Nothing would make me live there. Yes, it's relatively cheap, but you get what you pay for.

And ooh, a KFC opening soon. Now, that's posh.... :)

Don't take our word for it, the likes of Next, M&S and starbucks all do professional research before deciding to open in an area.

also decent schools a bit further out like St Albans that run coaches from the area.
