Inaccurate description on web

Options
Last week I bought a laptop from Tesco Direct (0% on new CC). The advert page listed it as having 2GB RAM. When in use it was a bit slow and when we checked it only had 1GB RAM. Apparently Vista takes a lot of memory so less than 2GB isn't recommended which is why I wanted 2GB.

Customer services have agreed to a full return and refund but my daughter won't hear of being without it while we get another, plus the inconvenience.

Alternatively we could upgrade the RAM ourselves, at a cost of course.

Having looked at so many my head was spinning, so that will teach me to check the spec one last time before I buy, although I would have thought the advert should be representative of the product.

There's not much more they can do other than refund you.

On another note, if you haven't already done so, check out other sites (ebuyer, dabs, misco, komplett, even play.com) to see if you can get a better laptop for your budget in case tescos aren't that competitively priced - I'm not saying they aren't competitive but worth checking with companies who specialise more in these things. Some of those I mention also have cashback on quidco.

Why not ask them for a reduction in price to enable you to upgrade the Ram. You both win that way.

The 2515 has 2GB at 50 pounds more, but is not in stock so can't just do a swap.

It is just disappointing to find that after hours of comparison that I got something that I didn't really want based on the advert. CS admitted it was their fault that it was misdescribed.

The main reason for going to Tesco for this was the 0% finance (and the clubcard points which I don't appear to have been credited with).

Our old laptop failed just 2 weeks after the 2 year waranty ran out, so wasn't really prepared to pay another 700 pounds.

cos her daughter had thought she'd finally got a laptop...but its not as she wanted. Dont worry Dave she aint asking for compensation just advice.

Personally id take it back as i find laptops a pain upgrade and more costly than desktops. Get the money back and get one from somewhere else (ebuyer is where i buy my stuff from and have never had a problem)

Thanks rygon, thats exactly the problem.

My son rang Fujitsu and asked if the upgrade would be considered user servicable as I was concerned it might invalidate the warranty anyway. It currently has 2x516Mb so it would mean buying 2x1GB, not just 1x1GB.

What made it feel worse was the trouble we had collecting from the Tesco direct store due to misinformation about opening times on the website, but that's a long story too!

Run away....now! Amilo's are notoriously poor laptops. They have a high failure rate and are generally of very poor quality.

If you manage to get it sent back you have had a very close escape. In the 12 months I owned an Amilo it was in for repair for 4 months....
