new printer help needed. old printer not vista compatible

i need a new printer! argh i just bought a lovely new pc...with dreaded vista...and my lexmark p3150 now isn't compatible. I'm not impressed. I like my printer (despite its expensive refills!)

So...I was looking at getting a new printer. Any suggestions? Overall I'd be happy to spend more on the printer and less on the genuine cheap cartridges, rather than cheap printer expensive cartridges.

Any suggestions? Mainly print black and white, but occasionally colour and photos, print a lot of stuff in draft mainly for work, and probably only 500-800 pages per year.

Any help grately appreciated..its a minefield!!

Get an Epson you can get really cheap ink for it. If you can get one pre April 2007 they are even cheaper.

Bin you Windows Vista and download Linux (My suggestion is PcLinuxOS). Then you can save you printer from a landfill as it will suddenly be useful again!

Much cheaper option than buying a new printer!

You could try it with the vista generic text printer driver. you wouldn't get the same quality but it would be ok for drafts and maybe get a new one for photos.
I tried getting online support form Lexmark but no joy - sorry!
comping since august 2007, wins so far.....none! :rotfl:

If cartridge prices are not an issue then the Canon Pixma MP210 might be a good buy. Currently £38.59 delivered from Amazon with a £20 cashback deal from Canon as well. Comes with black and colour ink; just £18.59 for a printer/scanner/copier.

I like the look of that. I saw it on HUKD, but I can't find which cartridges it needs. Ideally I'd like to pay more for a printer, and less for the cartridges.

I got the MP210 before Christmas when it worked out at £25 after cashback. It's a decent little printer and the scanner seems pretty good. When I bought cartridges for it they came to £23 for genuine ones but they were the high yield ones. Looking on Amazon they seem to be a bit cheaper now, around £18 for both cartridges.

The cartridges may not be as cheap as my old Epson but at least the heads don't keep clogging up on this.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die
