Passport advice

hi all,
i'm in need of a little advice.
i'm travelling to Spain later this year with the family and my little boys passport (aged 5) expires 91 days after we return to the UK.
i have heard mixed advice advising me he needs 6 months clear on his passport whereas other people have told me he only needs 90 days clear on his return to the UK.
can anyone let me know, or point me in the direction of a website who might be able to give me an answer.
Being a true moneysaver, we are not looking at travelling abroad next year so to renew the passport now for another 5 years would in my opinion be a waste.
any help much appreciated.:D

No reliance should be placed on the above.

Travelling to Spain you will be ok with the passport however you will need to check with the airline you are travelling with. They often insist that it is valid for a set period after your return, you don't want to run the risk of having problems on your return journey.:j Debt free since 31/01/08:j

The passport office would add the remaining time on your old one to a new one, so why not get a new one now then you know your ok.Life's what you make it.:j0

According to the Foreign Office
"A valid British passport must be held for entry to and exit from Spain. There is no minimum passport validity requirement but you should ensure that your passport is valid for the proposed period of your stay."I am a Travel Agent My company’s ATOL/ABTA numbers are S0466/3973. MSE doesn't check my status as a Travel Agent, so you need to take my word for it. Atol numbers can be checked with the Civil Aviation Authority. This signature is here as I follow MSE's Travel Agent Code of Conduct.0 -
It is only required to be valid for one day after your return. I used this for my 5 year old last year 9after reading the threads on MSE) and there was no problem-I think there was 5 days left. The passport person went to make a comment then said oh but thats you coming back so it is fine.
So 90 days is loads.0
