British Gas Final Bill
Options
I switched from British Gas to Scottish Power at the end of January, at that time I was £95 in credit. I got a letter telling me to call them, which I did. they said they wanted a final metre reading. Detecting a trick, I told them I'd already told Scottish Power, which I had, and refused to give it to them.
I then asked them what about my £95, they said I would get it back.
So a couple of weeks later I log into my BG account and find that in fact I owe then £49, bearing in mind I was £95 in credit and paying £80 a month DD, I find it quite amazing that I have got from £95 in credit to oweing them £49.
Obvioulsy I don't want to pay it and was expecting some money off them! Some one has already called up asking for the person who pays the bills - me!
Any ideas on what to do?
Thanks

When were you £95 in credit?
As you look at your internet account the £95 credit is meaningless as they credit all Direct Debits immediately and only debit the account quarterly(or when it is closed)
For instance(example only) on 05 Dec 07 I was £50 in debit.
On 01 Jan 08 I paid my DD of £100, another £100 on 01 Feb and another £100 on 01 March 08.
So if I look at my account today(04 Mar) I will be £250 in credit.
However tomorrow I will get a quarterly bill for £350 and will be £100 in debit.
The only way you can work out what you owe(or are in credit) is by taking your meter readings.
For all the many shortcomings of BG, I would be very surprised if they have got this wrong - provided SP have given them the correct readings(as you wouldn't).
It will be simplicity itself to check - just look at the meter readings on your last bill and the meter readings on the closing bill.0 -
