should i replace both front tyres?
Hi,
one of my front tyres needs replacing (2mm tread left), but im unsure whether I need to get just this one or both tyres replaced at the same time?
The other tyre has about 4.5mm of tread left on it.
Ive gone for continental premium contact 2's so would it be best to change both anyway to get the best from the tyres?
Thanks

Best practice to have 2 new tyres at the same time. But it's not a mega problem to only change one unless you have certain types of four wheel drive cars. Could you maybe use the 4.5mm tyre on the rear or as a spare? The man without a signature.0

The spare has 10mm on (never ever used!), and the backs both have 8mm on so0 -
Current recommendation seems to be to have the best 2 tyres on the rear axle. You would get away with one tyre though, no point binning one with loads of tread on. Have you checked the spare? What's that one like?0

New tyre for 2.0mm tyre.
Fit 10mm spare on same axle as new tyre
Use 4.5mm as your spare
Assumes spare is same size wheel/tyre.0 -

Unless it's a space saver0 -
(assuming it's not a space saver) use the spare on the front and keep the 2mm as the spare, total cost = £00

Why not buy a part-worn tyre with similar tread to the half decent one?
Bingo...you've saved money on the tyre AND you'll have even wear.0 -

Surely the new tyres would be better on the front? And then they can be rotated to rear after some wear?Genie
