Help! Buildings insurance as a freeholder

Will try to keep things simple! When I bought my flat (converted victorian terrace) 5 yrs ago I also became the owner of the freehold for my flat and the upstairs flat. I was advised that since I was the freeholder I would have to take out 'block' buildings insurance to cover both properties, which I did with the Halifax - they were the only provider I could find that were willing to provide such cover. However whenever they have sent me documents etc they have been worded as if the property was a 4 bed house rather than 2 separate properties - I have always pointed out to them on the phone that this is misleading but they have always said (but not in writing!) that it's okay.
Now I'm selling a 50% share of the freehold to my neighbour and want to put the policy in both our names. The Halifax are saying they won't do this, and that my neighbour has to take out her own policy, and are asking questions about the whole set up of the existing policy. My neighbour and I have an ongoing subsidence claim being processed under this policy, and I'm starting to worry they're going to cancel the existing policy or something equally drastic...any advice on how to proceed?
