Cancel & re-book same holiday...?

Perhaps make an initial phone call first. Ask them to quote the total figure you would be liable for if you cancelled your booking, and then take it from there.
That way, you'll be certain of any hidden costs, without actually risking anything by making a cancellation.0 -
I have done this before when the holiday has gone down considerably, it was with First Choice, I phoned and First Choice altered it no problem and I just paid an amendment fee so I was still quids in. Various companies charge amendment fees for changing dates, hotels etc. May pay you to phone and see if you can amend. No Matter what you do there will be critics.0

Thanks for all the feedback folks.
The holiday is booked with Airtours (who've since been bought out by Thomas Cook), & nothing in the T&C's prohibits the cancellation.
I'm torn at the moment & it's a case of weighing up the risk against the possible savings.
I've got another 3 weeks before cancellation will cost me more than my deposit, so there's no rush.0 -

Unless of course the price has gone up again tomorrow, supply and demand and all that

Out of interest - did you make the second booking before or after cancelling the first?
If it was a holiday that I had booked a long time in advance, I too would seriously consider re-booking - especially if the saving was as large as the OP was talking about. I would just be a bit worried though - if I was using the same company that someone would spot it and smell a rat, but I don't suppose there are any legal reasons preventing someone from doing just that?
Mine was with Hayes and Jarvis. I did phone them up and
give them the option to help but they said no so I just booked again and then cancelled only lost deposit but I did confirm with them first how much exactly I would lose.travelover0 -
I did this with Virgin - lost a non refundable depoist of £240 and re-booked excatly the same holiday and saved in total £650 (would have been £900 but obviously i have lost the £240). Still was a mssive saving! Well worth doing!
Phone them up and see if they can arrange all this over the phone for you - this is how i did it.
Or if the only money you will defo lose is the £100 - just buy the hoilday first so your guranteed the holiday you want - then cancel the original afterwards!!wins 2008: nada
