Slight Rubbing Noise when Turning Car

Hi all,

Hope someone can help with this. I have a VW GOLF Mark 4. When i turn even slightly i hear a rubbing sounding like its coming from the front tyres. Its not really bad but there is definately some kind of rubbing noise and happens even with the slightest turn of the steering wheel.

Regards,

James

jack the front up one side at a time and rotate the wheel you might hear the rubbing look for signs of rubbing on the tyres and body work.then jack the fornt up so both wheels are of the ground turn on to full lock and rotate again

It could be the steering rack - pray it isn't. I 've just had one replaced under warranty on my A3 - parts were £700 and it took 2 days!

Could be something really simple like a CV gaiter (and they're not pricey!) - but really best to get it checked.

Or you have your keyring catching behind the steering wheel - had a few customers with this type of noise around the time of them scoobies!
  • thanks for the replies - sounds like the rubbing is definately coming from near the tyres. will book it in the garage this weekend for them to have a look at - hope its nothing expensive (more hoping the garage dont try ripping me off though)
