Microsoft Antispyware

Does anyone know where I can download the new version of Microsoft Antospyware Beta?

My version expired today and I can't download a new version because I can't run the validation tool properly  they're obsessed with piracy :rotfl:

I can't find this "validation code" to enter on the Microsoft website either. I'm quite nifty with PC software but this validation tool just doesn't run and keeps crashing my PC

I had an auto notification of the new version of M/S Anti-spyware a few weeks ago, just clicked on install and had no problems. Just been to M/S website and downloaded the validation tool, again no problems also I did not have to enter any code just clicked install

They must be having problems with their validation system, yesterday it wanted me to validate again before downloading a file, I couldn't be arsed to turn my laptop over to write down the number and clicked to not validate. I wouldn't let me go no further, however, I chlicked the browsers back button twice, then clicked on the same buttons as I'd done earlier and it didn't ask for the computer to be validiated before download!

    strange.

I've just uninstalled Microsoft antispyware. I wasn't happy in the first place that it had taken over "Giant" as I tried it out a few months ago and got the feeling it was installing as much spyware as it was removing, so I removed it!

I just don't feel happy with it and already have Ewido doing a similar and good job, so don't think I need it, also I think it makes computer run slower.
    Torgwen.......... :) ...........
  • mparter, thanks for that link :)

I'm downloading this at the moment but as I have dial-up it is taking its time :o

Is this the latest version? I have saved this link in my favourites for IE so when this one expires, will it be the same link?

Also, Fran, what did you find with your PC working slowly? Mine goes quite slowly but I think it may be due to Norton Internet Pro which takes a lot of time to load at startup.

Norton is renowned for being memory hungry, there are better and free alternatives available that take up less memory

  • It wont give you the new version if your xp is a cracked copy? Microsoft can check to see if its legal and then will allow you to download it.
Ring up microsoft who will give you a new code! And it will reactivate the software.
I'm not poor i'm just skint

There has been issues with the Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) thingy recently. There have been various posts on forums of people who have had trouble completing validation even though their product id/key is geniune, and that it can sometimes take a number of attempts to get it to work etc.

If it doesnt work, and you know you have a geniune copy (just take a look on your pc for the certificate of authenticity) and that you did purchase your pc from a reliable source, then i'd just do a search on google for the numberous work-arounds to WGA which have been uncovered. Yes, I suppose its illegal if you dont have a genuine copy, but if you do have a legal copy then I definitely wouldn't let microsoft waste my time and money on an 0870 number!

Microsoft do have every reason to be concerned with piracy, as its estimated that up to one third of all PC's in the world running Windows have a pirated copy on. However, if this is an attempt by Microsoft to make these people think again - then I think they are going to have to start taking a different approach... as I cant see them spending hundreds of £/$'s on software which is seriously flawed in terms of security and does little to keep people safe on the internet, and free from viruses.

Am I the only one who has a problem with letting a company decide what is spyware when that same company is taking an interest in delveloping spyware technology?!
