Can anyone reccomend software for the transfering of DV tapes to my PC to DVD, please.

Nero 6 should do it. Available as free download as detailed here:

If you want to take footage from a digital camcorder (dv tape) and put it onto your pc for editing then windows movie maker will do this if you have a fire wire port and necessary hardware.
