Virgin media, how do i change channels?

I am having Virgin+ installed on Saturday, I would like the V+ box to go in the cupboard under the stairs where the aerial outlets are at the moment. How will I be able to change channels? My electrician mentioned something called a Goblin (!) What is it? Where can I get one ? Shall I mention it to Virgin before the guy turns up on Sat? How much are they?

As to what a goblin is i dont know, maybe its some sort of tv sender device where you point your remote at th goblin by your tv and it will send a message to the other goblin by your box, something like this

I have that scenario, Sky box , DVD rec, AV amp, V Box all in a cupboard. I use one of these. The IR beam of the receiver bounces nicely off the back of the understairs cupboard door. I have a tv and a pyramid with a solitary Scart cable to the TV (Scart switch box under stairs too). Very neat!

AV senders as in post 2 do not work with v+ boxes if they are connected to HDMI. We used to have one with the old V box but it doesn't work since we've had V+.

I only have a V box but the PowerMid I suggested appears to work with V+
see this thread from the Digital Spy forums.

Note: it may not work with older style remotes though, as stated further down the DS thread.

Hi Buyitall. There has apparently been an update which now enables you to output video from the VCR scart whilst the HDMI is connected. You can plug this output to your AV sender to distribute the signal. The only drawback is there is no banner, tv guide, etc as it is really only intended for recording on to DVD/VCRs.

UPDATE V+ works with the Powermid!
