Postage query?

I sold an item on ebay and have just received their payment - the buyer lives in Ireland. Sorry if this is a stupid question but is postage to Ireland a lot different to postage within the UK?

Thanks

    Hi,
I believe Southern Ireland/Eire is classed as Europe by Royal Mail.

Northern Ireland is the same postage prices as the UK.

The info is available on the ebay/Royal Mail postage centre site.

    Hope this helps.

As they are on the same island you would think the cost would be the

    same.

    It  me as well.

It depends whereabouts in Ireland - If it has a UK style postcode starting with BT, then it is in the North, and part of the United Kingdom. Normal postage rates apply, but it does have to cross water so next day delivery is not a certain on 1st class mail.

If it is does not have a postcode, it is likely to be in Eire, or the Republic of Ireland (or Free State for any old school members!) - and therefore is part of Europe for postage rates. It's a separate country, with it's own currency, language, government, public services, uses the metric system of weights and measures and has an international border with the United Kingdom, much in the same way as when you travel from Dover to France.

And don't go down the "it's the same island" path - have you any idea how much trouble that has caused over the last 600+ years!!!!!

If it's by royal mail to Northern Ireland the cost will be the same as the rest of the UK, if it is going by courier, most couriers do charge more for Northern Ireland.

If it's actually going to southern ireland it will depend on it being a small packet, under 2kg, if over it may start getting quite expensive the heavier and bigger it is.

Eire addresses tend to look a little like this -

    Pat
    Ballywotsit
    Cork
    Ireland

Over simplified, but the lack of much detail on the addresses is pretty common for rural Ireland.
