Help / Advice required

Hi all, I sadly think I know the answer to this one but any of you Whiz’s may somehow be able to offer any hope its worth the Post. Sorry if its rambling nonsense.

Mods if this is better suited to another category please feel free to move.

Last Easter having gone through a particularly stressful divorce I decided to book a family hols for myself, new partner and two young children to Florida. My partner used her Visa card and I paid off the card, sadly shortly after booking my partner had to undergo a second bout of radiotherapy so we had to cancel, weeks later due to stress and worry mostly with a skin disorder she developed eventually she had to give up her job and although we rescheduled the hols months later she was still unfit to travel, so we went through the channels of claiming a refund via Virgin Atlantic which was fine.

Now the crunch, despite helping her as best I could financially she couldn’t afford her debts and had to undertake a debt payment plan with cccs which is going very well and I’m proud of her. Virgin (who have been awful to deal with but that’s another story) finally have agreed to pay out on the claim and tell me today without warning that on Friday 29/2 they have refunded her card, annoying this card / debt are part of her payment plan, the refund will take up to 5 days, I spoken to Virgin who are very unsympathetic and says its policy to refund the original card, meaning as there is no way I can prove the money is mine she has paid hundreds off her debt, I’ve come home tonight to find her sobbing and its leaving me very distressed, she has resumed employment but she cant pay me the money back and has even offered to pay me a small amount each month, which I wont allow bless her. I’ve reassured her its not her fault but she's adamant she’s to blame if the children don’t go away (I'm sure I'll find a way).

My question is this, What would you guys do, any ideas ????? Is there any way she can get the money back, is it just an internal policy of Virgin to refund the original card, (In this instance what happens if like others you regularly change credit cards).

I'm sure I'll get some unsympathetic replies and at the end of the day I know its only money but I would like to make her feel better and give her some hope, so its over to you.

    Hi,

thanks for posting...sorry to hear of the situation. I can't see any reason why anyone should be unsympathetic. From what you've said you're fine with what's happened so why should anyone get on your back about it.

I'm afraid a refund to the cardholder is really the only way forward for many reasons - not just Virgin - it's the way it goes I'm afraid and I don't suppose you'll get much sympathy from the faceless call-centres.

The onus will be on you to reassure her that it doesn't matter in the scheme of things and life's too short.

    good luck.
