EON Ice2 Tariff

Ice 2 Electrical Heating Nsc Ur with 11.5-15 hrs off peak. (off contract details letter)

These are the charges for this tariff

First 225 kwh per quarter 18.80 per kwh
Additional kwh 10.46 per kwh
Rht Standing Charge 6.72 per day
Rht Normal 7.26

Its ridiculous. I have two meters a day rate and a night rate meter. Trouble is the water is wired into a timer that turns it on during the day which is metered by the night rate meter. The radiators (3 night storage heaters) do not come on during the day although there is a clock dial, but it doesn't work. Anyway these storage heaters don't need a boost I am at work all day. With the switch in the off position, the heaters have plenty of heat for the evenings and weekends.

Originally when I moved in, they added up the night and day meters and charged me at day rates. When I complained they changed me to this tariff.

If they put me on normal Economy 7 it would be cheaper.

Since moving in to a flat in a block in September I have used

1528 normal kwh
and 3770 night (storage heating units).

If I enter these readings in the Ebico website. Their economy 7 rates are a lot cheaper and if I switched to them could save £100 + a year.
My next door neighbour has the same heating and two meters and Eon put her on their normal economy 7 tariff. How strange is that.

p.s. I can't use a washing machine or other electrical appliances as these sockets are NOT wired into the cheap rate meter.

Has anyone else heard of this expensive tariff?

Anyway, I am switching to Equipower.

Hi. Not sure about the ice bit but NSC stands for no standing charge and ur means unrestricted(not split into day and night. I think it's one of those tariffs for people with unusual meters and are rarely very competitive( that I one of anyway)

I wanted to give an update with how to save money with storage heaters.
Firstly I wrote to Eon with a photograph of the meter and timing switch, explained that I need to save money as I am on a low income.
They very kindly, came and fitted a brand new economy 7 digital meter.
This meant that the storage heaters no longer came on in the afternoon to boost and only charged up at midnight to 8.00am.
I was also able to run my washing machine early in the morning and obtain cheaper electricity, which I couldn't before.
I saved money by changing the meter.
    Thank you Eon.
I have now moved out of the flat to a Gas Centrally Heated house.
