I've got a Barclaycard at 14.9%. I've seen a few people here who have got their rates lowered.. How do I go about it?
Do I just speak to the first person to answer my call or is there a particular dept?
I'm not still spending on the card, just want to pay it off. Am also going to up my DD to them in the same call; have always paid about £30 more than the minimum.
Thanks!

I'm by no means an expert and am new to posting myself but I did this recently so will tell you my experience and anyone else who knows more can add to it.
I did this with MBNA - I started by outright asking them if they'd apply a lower % APR to my whole existing balance as I was a loyal customer and I quoted that I'd been accepted by Egg with 0% until May 2009 and if they couldn't offer me a deal as an existing customer, then I'd BT it all away to Egg.
They said they couldn't match the offer on my existing balance but for any new BTs, they'd offer 0% until November 2008. I explained that I didn't have a great deal of credit left on the card so it wasn't really a useful offer and then the customer services rep said the best she can do on my existing balance is to drop my APR by 3% just like that with no catch. I said I'd probably BT it all away anyhow but she said that she'd applied the new APR with immediate effect anyway regardless
Hope that's of help - I didn't get through to customer retentions and that was just customer service - I may well have got more from retentions and I'll find out when I do BT it away and ask to close the account this month.0 -
