Strange decline from Barclaycard

in Credit cards
Hi there, my first post and I'm a little baffled.
I applied for a Barclay card platinum (wanted the 0% on balance transfers) as was told I was provisionally excepted, pending some additional ID checks. But they've now rejected me on grounds that the documents I provided weren't in line with fraud protection/provention. As I sent them what they asked for (bank statment, Council Tax statement, Utility bill) I'm a little suprised. As I also have a company credit card with them, so I'm even more suprised as my details should already been in the system surely?!!!!
How badly does this impact on my credit score and can I apply anywhere else without heading for total rejection? Is there anyway to get them to reconsider or is this a little futile? 0% is all I'm after.
My credit score should be good, 2 credit cards and a graduate loan, no missed payments. No CCJ's or anything untoward. I'm not on the electoral role, but my flatmate applied for the same card and was accepted, despite some horriffic debts. I've only been employed by my present company for 4 months, but if that was a problem wouldn't it have been addressed on my intial application? Job is well paid and I'm not currently a house owner and am not married.
Minimum payments on my Virgin card are high, so I'm keen to find out the best way to get on a 0% so I can actually start to pay some debt off rather be stuff with skyhigh minimum payments!!!
Any help would would be greatly appreciated!!

I was declined by Barclaycard about a year ago too, and they gave the same reason-when I asked for more detail, I was told that the rejection was because I hadn't given a landline home phone number (I didn't have one at the time).
Being on the electoral roll should help. You can certainly ask them to reconsider, but at the end of the day it's down to them to decide if they want to take you on as a customer or not...incidentally, the card agreement for your company card will be between your employer and Barclaycard. not with you (or at least that's how my company card works, and they assure me that that's standard!) so you may not actually appear as a current customer x0 -
Thanks!
I actually have a home phone number, but just didn't put it as we have a phone plugged in. So in all possibility, it could be something as trivial as that holding me back?!!!
I assumed that if I called back, I'd get some call centre person telling me that they couldn't tell why I was declined and they'd have no power to do anything.
Was your credit score ruined or did you successfully apply elsewhere?0 -
It could be something as small as that

And credit score not ruined at all-I got a mortgage without any problems, and have just been approved for the MBNA Platinum card at 0%, with a limit of £3000, so not everyone thinks I'm a massive risk. Although now I come to think of it, I did have a landline by the time I made the MBNA application...0 -

It will show on your credit report as a credit card search without a card appearing at the end of it.
Do others looking at this automatically assume it's a rejection? As far as I know there's not an official "rejected" marker put on your record.
Have you looked at your credit report yourself to see if there's anything on there that would count against you (apart from things already mentioned about electroral register, time with current bank, time in employment and time at current address etc) ?"A child of five could understand this. Fetch me a child of five." - Groucho Marx0 -

No, I haven't checked yet. As I was told by Barclaycard that I was accepted pending an ID check, an thats what they've come back and said failed me!! Some of my bills are only my initials and my surname instead of my full names, but surely that doesn't count? And why wouldn't they just tell me "we need to see X,Y or Z" and I would have sent them that?!! Drivers licence, passport?!! Just to fail me because they're not happy with a utility bill of mine or a landline potentially seems a little strange.
I guess I'd better look at replying to ther cards....unless Barclaycard decide I can have a card if I give them my landline!!!0 -
That could well be the reason I was at first declined for a bank account because the electoral roll had my address as flat a/b, and my electricity bill just said a/b no flat. Had already passed the credit check.

Just called Barclaycard the and, suprise, they can't tell me why I was declined, that can only be achieved by writing in. Perhaps getting mr credit report would be worthwhile. Will it list why I'm declined for a certain credit product and tell me what I need to do to rectify it?0

The Co-Op declined me for a Cashminder on the same basis. After a letter to them, they revealed that what I had supplied didn't match up with what fraud prevention agencies told them.
It was b******s - I am who I say I am, and frankly I'd be happier if they had the courage in their convictions to add a CIFAS entry to my file; I'd have been able to properly dispute that! As proof of the b******sness of their answer, I applied with Alliance and Leicester 2 days later and got an instant yes, no proof of ID required. HSBC had only my provisional driving license as proof of my ID, and they accepted me without a challenge!
Do what I did; contact Experian/Equifax to get Barclaycard's searches removed from your file. Yes, really. It worked for me!0 -
You can get the searches removed? How do you go about doing that?0

I have managed to get searches removed but the credit reporting agency will only do this from authority from the company that searched the file.
In my case two searches were carried out without authority by Lloyds and Nationwide. However if permission was given I doubt whether your request would be considered.0
