I'm looking to chose a Bank with respect to starting a new small business. Which would any of you recommend I consider or avoid ?

Depends upon a few things

Are you looking to borrow money for the business (through the bank) or do you just need banking facilities?

Are you happy dealing with call centres or do you want face to face contact to discuss your account?

Is your business one that handles a lot of cash (e.g. a pub) or is your usage likely to be light?

i use abbey and get on well with them, did have alliance and leicester account but closed it because i got fed up waiting 1hr+ every time i called them to do a transaction

I'm with Barclays for business banking. They deal face to face, however last year our account manager tried to get us to swap a loan (which we were paying 5% on) to them so that they could charge us over 10% (plus fees)!!
