West Bromwich star easy access account

  • Have had letter from WB saying my account is open and that by now I will have received my servicing pack - which I haven't. Spoke to Cust Serv on Monday and told I will get a call back, same again today. Not possible to speak to anyone with any information.

    Has any one received their pack for this account?

    The Magic 8 account isn't listed in there.

    Magic 8 account was never on the website either, Westbromwich intention "was" that only those who visited its branches would be aware of it.

    That's fair enough, but I do visit the branch, and think that any changes in the rate should still be made known to me somehow! ISTR reading a while back that it wasn't 8.0% any longer?

    If you click on the savings tab and then select the drop down box, you'll find it's listed there as withdrawn, but the details are available to view.

    Has anyone else experienced poor customer service after opening a West Bromwich BS star account?

    I can excuse them taking weeks to set it up, as they were inundated, but
    - they forgot to include any instructions on how to actually operate the account in their welcome pack. When I informed them, they didn't bother offering to send me any instructions
    - last time I tried to call I was kept on hold for over 15 minutes
    - they got my address wrong even though it was clearly entered correctly in my online application
    - the account doesn't seem to be very secure
    - they don't mention the accounts being covered upto £35,000 anywhere on their website or in the welcome pack. When I queried this by email, they didn't bother replying.

    And I've only just started using them. Its doesn't exactly give me confidence in putting my money there!

    My West Brom account took well over a month to be opened. The cheque was not banked until at least a couple of weeks after I sent it, and I didn't receive the welcome for several weeks after that. For that reason, I have decided not to use the account, but stick to Kaupthing even though it pays slightly less, because it seems reliable (up to now at least).
