It seems I may have picked up a little nastiness. I use panda active scan which has disinfected 15 files all related to Java & I am suffering from two rather nasty side effects.

1. Machine running very slowly

&

2. TMP files all named PAV*****.TMP filling my windows temp directory and consuming ALL of my HDD space.

I am usually pretty good at dealing with virae removing the offending files from PC and cleaning registry etc but I simply cannot find this little nasty. Whilst I would like to say I have resolved this problem I think it will simply return to give me grief. Anyone else had these symptoms? Or can offer further advise!

Thanks in advance

Do you have any other antivirus/trojan/spyware software too?

PAV is Panda antivirus isn't it? So isn't this temporary files that you've acquired with your scan? Have you bought Panda or just using the free scan? Just wondered if you can just remove temporary internet files to remove though this is pure guesswork, or use other free software (see FAQ's Internet security for extra ideas).
    Torgwen.......... :) ...........

I have been using Panda (Free Scan) for years, never before has it left these temporary files on the PC. I have a permament firewall which often has programs such as VNC running though it, Panda (When Required) & Spybot (When Required).

I know my system in great detail as it's the same (similiar) setup for over 12 years. I know how many files are on my HDD & how big they are, I know what keys are in my registry along with entries in my ini files. When a rogue comes along I often see it before I feel adverse affects from it (but not this time)!!
  • Tony,

A few things spring to mind - have you emptied the Java cache,
    • have you run a different on line scanner,
    • have you run anti trojan software
    • Have you tried CCleaner or CleanUP - they clear all temp files.
IMHO - Bitdefender is a good online scanner as is a2 for trojan's.

    CCleaner is available here

    and Clean UP here

Finally have you tried Hijack this - if you know your way around your system then this program may pick up something you missed.
