I Hope someone can help....

I had Office 2003 installed onto my laptop and then i installed Office 2000 just for Microsoft Access. However it installed all the applications. GRR

I just went to remove programs and i removed Office 2000.

On my desktop, i have two icons for Microsoft Powerpoint documents that i use frequently but they dont seen to have a powerpoint icon. The icon looks like a default icon. i want the icon to be the Powerpoint one.

Im not sure how to change the icon to look like it use to.

Also, i installed Office 2000 about 4 weeks ago, i tried to do a system restore but the the restores are all within the last 3 weeks! grr

You've done this the wrong way around. And it sounds like you've caused some problems...

It is perfectly possible to run older Office apps with newer ones, but the installs must be done in order, and different versions to different folders. (Note you can only install one version of Outlook though.)

Providing you have all the install discs, remove all traces of Office 2003 and 2000.

Install Office 2000 Access component only, and when it asks for a folder, set it to "Office 2000" in Program Files.

Then install Office 2003 (ensuring this goes into a different folder, the default "Office" will be fine.

    Everything will work as normal.

Those 2 icons look like the 'default' icon because of a file association issue. The .ppt .pps extensions are no longer associated to open with PowerPoint. The likelihood is that PowerPoint is still in your system but the file associations for .ppt .pps were removed (possibly when you uninstalled Office 2000) and need to be changed back to 'Opens with' PowerPoint

    Do the following:

    1. Right-click on one of the two documents with 'default' icon you have on your desktop, Point to Open With, and then click Choose Program.

    2. Notice that the Open With dialog box appears. Select Microsoft Office PowerPoint

    3. Click to select the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box if it is not already selected.

    4. Click OK.
The true cost of something is what you give up to get it.
