council tax on two homes?
Comments
-
My mum passed away last summer and it took me a couple of months to get her flat emptied and sold. Meantime I was liable for Council Tax - I got a 10% discount after they inspected it and were satisfied it was unfurnished, but otherwise was liable for the full amount.
I'm not sure if the various authorities have different rules; I queried this several times (it didn't seem fair to me at all, especially when I was paying full council tax on my own home and none of mum's services were being used) but to no avail.0 -
Is it provided as part of the employment contract ? i.e caretakers residence etcI no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

Does anyone know where I can find the info for 50% discount if required by employment that CIS was talking about?New surname New start!
Total Debt - [STRIKE]£9999.09 [/STRIKE]now 7633.16 23.66% paid off0 -
Second home discounts are variable (between 0 and 50% discount) depending on the council but a job related second home is still fixed in legislation as being 50%. Councils have not been given powers to vary job related second homes.
Just spoke to the council - they advised that a 25% discount should have been applied and they are sending me the form.

I found this. Depends whether your employment requires you to live in a particular dwelling (eg parish house for religious ministers or caretaker's properties).
I get to choose my own place and work pays for it, so I just get 25%.
