I need advice please!I joined Esporta two years ago, and have decided to cancel as I am not using it enough. When I joined I was clearly told that I needed to give one month's membership to cancel. (I am checking the contract when I get home, but I know what I was told!)I cancelled last week, and I have now been told that I need to give three month's notice, and that is what it says on all contracts, and I have essentially been called a liar.Advice please! I do not want to pay three more months unless I am completely legal obliged to do so......Hey hoCB

It's not what you were told at the time of joining, it's what the contract terms and conditions state. This wouldn't be the first time that a fitness club state one thing verbally to get someone to join up, but the written contract states something completely different."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I wasn't trying to be facetious - quite the opposite. It's the written terms and conditions in the contract you signed that will prevail, regardless what someone said in order to get you to sign."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
It's whatever's written in your contract that is correct. If it's written 3 months, then it's 3 months. If it's written 1 month, then it's 1 month. Tis always best to check contracts before signing, as sales people say many things to get you to sign!
If you have the name of the person who told you 1 month notice, and a witness of them saying 1 month, then perhaps you'd be able to get it down to 1 month... but it's unlikely.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Regardless of what you were told what is in the written contract is what matters
If they changed it you could have declined the renegotiated contract, but by signing/using it you have implied acceptance
The amount of people on this site who lack simple common sense then try and blame someone else is unbelievable

I've just joined an esporta gym and can confirm that currently it's a 3 month cancellation.
Obviously you'll have to check your contract to see what the cancellation time frame was, at the time you signed your contract.
Always read the small print!0
